Built with Natural Materials. Made for Decades.
When people think about home milling, they often focus on the flour. For us, the real difference begins much earlier — in the materials, the craftsmanship, and the precision of the mill itself.
At Salzburg Grain Mills, we build our mills around values that matter to us: natural granite milling stones, solid untreated wood instead of plastic in the milling chamber, and a stainless steel adjustment system designed to keep flour fineness consistent over decades.
Natural granite instead of artificial stone
At the center of every grain mill are the milling stones. That is why we use natural granite from Europe rather than artificial corundum-ceramic stones.
Our granite stones are worked by hand and matched in pairs. Each pair is unique. For us, natural stone is not a marketing detail — it is a conscious decision in favor of natural materials, durability, and flour quality.
Our natural granite stones are nearly break- and chipping-proof, often provide excellent service for 30 to 40 years with the factory grind, and can later be resharpened for a second, equally long life.
Solid wood where flour is made
Another defining feature of our mills is the milling chamber made of solid, untreated hardwood. Wood acts antistatically and, in our view, simply belongs closer to flour than plastic does.
That is why we deliberately avoid plastic in the area where flour is made. For customers who value natural materials, thoughtful design, and a more authentic way of baking, this difference matters.
Precision you can rely on
Fine flour takes more than good stones. It also takes precision engineering. Our stainless steel thread adjustment system is one of the key elements that makes our mills perform the way they do.
It keeps the selected degree of fineness from changing during milling and is built to work reliably for decades. The result is flour that feels airy, powdery, soft, and velvety — flour you can truly see and feel.
Craftsmanship with character
Our mills are shaped by Austrian craftsmanship, experience, and a strong respect for lasting quality. We believe a grain mill should not feel like a disposable appliance. It should feel like a tool made with care, purpose, and character.
That is what we mean when we speak about the soul of Austrian milling: honest craftsmanship, natural materials, and mills built for real kitchens and long-term use.
For us, fresh-milled flour is more than an ingredient. It is a different way of baking. Starting with whole grain means thinking more intentionally about origin, quality, and taste.
That is why we see our mills as more than kitchen appliances. They are part of a more conscious kitchen — one that values real ingredients, natural materials, and a closer connection to food.
At Salzburg Grain Mills, we build mills for people who care about how flour begins.
