Monster Granola Bars (No-Bake) – a colorful power snack

Looking for a snack that kids love and that actually keeps you going? These
monster granola bars (no-bake) come together in minutes, no oven needed, using simple pantry ingredients.
With freshly milled oats from your
Salzburger Grain Mill (household mill)
they taste wonderfully nutty and stay nice and chewy — perfect for school, work, and adventures.

  • Makes: 12–16 bars
  • Time:
  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients

  • 220 g rolled oats or freshly milled oats (medium setting on your Salzburger Grain Mill)
  • 120 g creamy peanut butter or almond butter
  • 120 g honey, maple syrup, or agave syrup (vegan)
  • 60 g colorful chocolate drops (“monster topping”)
  • 40 g chopped nuts (e.g., almonds, hazelnuts)
  • 40 g crisped rice or puffed grain
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 40 g dried cranberries or chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8 in (about 20×20 cm) pan with parchment.
  2. Mill oats on a medium setting in your Salzburger Grain Mill — the pieces bind better in no-bake bars.
  3. Gently warm peanut butter and honey/syrup, stirring until smooth. Stir in vanilla and salt.
  4. In a bowl, combine oats, nuts, crisped rice, and optional dried fruit. Pour the warm nut-honey mixture over and mix well. Let cool slightly, then fold in the chocolate drops so they don’t melt.
  5. Press mixture very firmly into the pan — firm packing is key for no-bake bars.
  6. Chill at least 1 hour. Slice into bars or bites and enjoy!

Tips for perfect no-bake bars

  • Binding: Too crumbly? Add 1–2 tbsp syrup. Too soft? Sprinkle in 2–3 tbsp oats and press again.
  • Kid-friendly: Save some chocolate drops for the top — “monster-look” guaranteed.
  • Vegan: Use maple or agave syrup and vegan chocolate drops.
  • Nut-free: Swap peanut butter for tahini or sunflower seed butter.
  • Protein boost: Mix in 1–2 tbsp neutral protein powder, if you like.

Storage & meal prep

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
For a stash, wrap individually and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw 10 minutes before eating.

Why freshly milled tastes better

With your Salzburger Grain Mill you mill oats, spelt, or emmer fresh
keeping aroma, fiber, and delicate oils intact. You also control the texture:
fine for compact bars, medium-fine for more bite. For more on fresh milling, see these reads:

FAQ

My bars crumble — what went wrong?

Usually they weren’t pressed firmly enough. Pack the mixture down really well and chill long enough.

Can I reduce the sweetness?

Yes. Use 20–30% less syrup and slightly increase the nut butter. Or sweeten with finely chopped dates.

No oven temperatures needed for this recipe, so there were no °C values to convert to °F.
