Simple, Tasty & Perfect for Little Hands
Butter cookies are easy to make, even with young children. The dough is soft, easy to roll, and perfect for cookie cutters. While the cookies bake, your home fills with that cozy, sweet smell that instantly feels like Christmas.
Ingredients (for about 30 cookies)
- 250 g all-purpose flour (or freshly milled soft wheat flour)
- 125 g butter (softened)
- 100 g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt
Instructions
- Mix butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
- Add flour and salt, and knead into a soft dough.
- Wrap and chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Roll out to about 4 mm thickness and let the kids cut out fun shapes.
- Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 8–10 minutes, until golden at the edges.
- Let cool and decorate if you like – or enjoy them just as they are!
Tip: Use Freshly Milled Flour
Freshly milled flour from your own Salzburger household grain mill gives cookies a natural, rich flavor.
Since delivery to the USA takes about 3 weeks, it’s best to order early if you want to bake with freshly milled flour during the holidays.
Why Baking Together Matters
When you bake with your kids, you’re not just teaching them how to cook. You’re showing them patience, creativity, and joy in small things.
Rolling dough, laughing over misshapen stars, or licking the spoon – these are the moments that make a house feel like home.
Turn flour, butter, and laughter into something sweet. That’s the magic of baking together.
